Network Management has come a long way over the past few decades, to say the least. Today, vendors and users alike have the freedom to choose the Network Monitoring System (NMS), or combination of systems, that works best for their environment. But it hasn’t always been that simple – and, if it wasn’t for the vision of a few committed open network evangelists, we’d likely still be stuck with vendor-proprietary NMS solutions today.
