Application-Support-EngineerOur Application Support Engineers are pretty great. They don’t stand too close to people in queues, they’ll never give spoilers to your favourite show and they won’t tag you in unflattering photos.  More importantly, they’re really good at what they do.

Today one of our ASE’s helped a company install the IRIS NMS system – quickly, easily and with a smile on his face. The client was so happy that he bought the IRIS office some delicious doughnuts. He then went on to support the Junior ASE with a tough support call and pulled a playful prank on our Systems Administrator. This is basically a day in the life of an Application Support Engineer at IRIS. They work hard, they get the job done—and they have fun doing it.

So what does an application support engineer do?

An Application Support Engineer delivers technical support for software applications and technologies to a specific target audience, according to the needs of a particular business. At IRIS, our focus is on Network Management Systems. Application Support Engineers need to be proficient in many different coding languages and operating systems, but they also need to be able to give excellent customer service, deal with long support calls, and generally maintain a level head in stressful situations.

What makes IRIS stand out from the rest?

The daily grind at the IRIS offices are pretty different to what you’d expect from a networking company. Here are a few reasons why:

  • We work hard and play hard.
  • We do team lunches every now and again.
  • We offer beer on tap (For when the job is done and dusted)

What are the greatest parts of working at IRIS?

At Iris, you’ll get to work with top industry professionals. These guys build and run massive ISP networks and form part of a team that is building a great Network Management Systems product.

We’re a growing company with a supportive team who are all working towards a common goal.

Our culture is relaxed, trendy and cool. We like to think of ourselves as a ‘New Generation’ internet company.

What are the daily duties in the life of an ASE?

A typical day in the life of an Application Support Engineer at IRIS involves working through a variety of different scenarios that require a lot of quick-thinking and resourcefulness to fix. These tasks include:

  • Helping clients find the best value in Iris
  • Tackling challenging and different scenarios.
  • Upgrading/repairing clients’ systems to bring in code fixes.
  • ASE’s are sometimes required to do light code debugging to pinpoint a problem
  • Configuring the Iris system to best suit the client.
